To teach people how to properly ride, care for and ENJOY horses and animals in a safe and FUN environment. Creekwood Farm and Riding Academy is a full service facility with special emphasis on matching a rider with a horse that will compliment his/her abilities!
Mack Jumper (owner/trainer):
Mack grew up on his 33 acre farm in Gastonia and got his very first pony in 1961 at the age of 4. He started showing his pony with his father’s help around the Carolinas and became familiar with the American Saddlebred breed. He acquired his first Saddlebred in 1968 and showed Saddlebreds into his teenage years. His professional training career started in 1982 at Fashion Acres for WL Sigmon in Hickory NC. He also trained horses at Pendelton Farm in Versailles KY and Audubon Stables in New Orleans LA. His current barn was built in 1986 and he has been training horses for himself ever since. A few of the Champions he had trained are: WC Sinatra, WC Fashions Karina, WC High Lites Sable Sweetheart, WC From This Moment On, WC Connisoeur, WC Hellacious, WC Snapshot, WC Rivas Desirable and his absolute favorite WC Lady Vol! Mack has a knack for working with young horses and preparing them for the division that suits their ability best. His patience and communication skills prove helpful with horses as well as amateur riders.
Maura Dalton (instructor):
Maura grew up in New Hampshire and started taking lessons at the age of 6. At 12 years of age she began taking saddleseat lessons and started showing American Saddlebreds under the direction of Suzy Shiflet. Throughout her teenage years she worked for Suzy at Shiflet Stables helping with summer camps, lessons and shows. Maura enjoyed working with children and adults learning to ride so in 2000 she decided to make a career teaching horseback riding lessons. In addition to Shiflet Stables she has worked at Midge Hunt Stables and Jon Walker Stables. Many of her students have won championships throughout the Carolinas and 2 have won classes at the National Academy Championship Finals. She is a well rounded teacher including all aspects of horsemanship in her classes. She will adapt her teaching style to each riders individual needs and encourage them to be the best equestrian they can.
